This article relates to the access restrictions feature. For an overview of all restrictions, check out the article Levels of restrictions and redundancies.

If you are trying to unlock a door but are restricted by Geofence, check Users Receiving an Unlock Error.

When you activate the Geofence restriction, you can only unlock your door when your phone is within a 300 meter (about .2 mile) geographical radius around your Place.  When the geofence is turned on, you are not able to unlock your door in Manhattan from a phone in Brooklyn. This is the restriction to turn on if you want to prevent remote unlocks from happening.

You can enable the geofence restriction for your individual doors (everyone trying to access the door will be affected) or groups (anyone in the group trying to access doors for that particular group will be affected). You can read more about restriction levels here.

Enable Geofence Restriction

Geofence Restriction can be enabled for individual doors or groups.

To enable Geofence Restriction for individual doors:

1. Sign in to Kisi
2. Open your Place
3. Click on Doors and open the door you want to update
4. Turn on Geofence Restriction
   
5. Click Save

To enable Geofence Restriction for a group:

1. Sign in to Kisi
2. Open your Place
3. Click on Groups/Teams and open the Group you want to update
4. Under Permissions, turn on Geofence Restriction 
   
5. Click Save

Users Receiving an Unlock Error

If you are trying to unlock a door but are restricted by Geofence, your phone’s location must be within geofence in order for you to unlock the door. We recommend you move closer to the door. If you are standing outside the door, your location is not being pulled accurately. Please toggle Airplane mode On/Off to update your location.

If you are within the proximity of the door, make sure that the settings on your phone are correct:

1. Open the Kisi mobile App
2. Choose Settings
3. Click on Introduction and follow the steps and make sure that the needed permissions are enabled
   

FAQ

• Can I change the proximity of this restriction?
  No, the radius is fixed at about 300m and can not be changed. If you wish to have a closer radius, please use the Reader Restriction instead.
