Relevant section: Restrictions
This article relates to the access restrictions feature.
The Kisi admin dashboard allows you to set restrictions to customize access for your members. Admins are able to set these restrictions on two levels with a hierarchy of Lock/Door, then Group.
Lock/Door Restrictions
Any restrictions set on the Lock/Door level will affect every user who attempts to access that lock/door, specifically, including the Account Owner / Master Admin.
Group Restrictions
Any restriction set on the Group level will affect any member shared access within that group, however, Secondary Admins and/or the Account Owner / Master Admin will be able to override those restrictions. (This is the most common level for restrictions as it allows for admin overrides in case of emergency).
Redundant Restrictions
We recommend checking that all restrictions are set without redundancies.
Levels of Redundancies
The restriction hierarchy goes Lock/Door, then Group. When setting restrictions, Kisi recommends that they not overlap or become redundant, as this can cause some unexpected behavior with the Kisi system. For example, if an admin sets a restriction on the Lock/Door level, there is no need to also set the same restriction on the Group level. The Lock/Door level affects anyone accessing the door, thus restrictions on either the Group level are redundant.
Types of Redundancies
Kisi has two types of location restrictions: Geofence Restriction and Reader Restriction.
- Geofence Restriction - This restriction only allows unlocks to made when the user is within a 300 meter (0.2 mile) radius of the building. (Basically on the same block.) This restriction is mainly used by Kisi users who want a location restriction, but do not have Kisi Readers.
- Reader Restriction - This restriction is a location restriction that is defined by the user's proximity to the Kisi reader. Essentially, the user must be standing within the Bluetooth/NFC radius (about 2 feet) of the reader.
When setting a location restriction, we recommend either/or with regards to the Geofence and Reader restrictions. Both restrictions set at the same time become redundant.
