Relevant section: Tap to Unlock with Secondary Authentication
Two-factor Authentication (2FA) for unlocks adds an extra layer of security for your access control. If activated, you can enforce the need for users to unlock their phone before unlocking the door.
This additional security measure also protects your facilities from intruders with lost or stolen employee phones, as these people won’t be able to authenticate the phone to enable door access. Of course, this feature is not mandatory and totally customizable from the Kisi dashboard.
Enable 2FA for unlocks
To enable 2FA for unlocks, please follow the steps below:
- Sign in to your Kisi account
- Select your place
- Under Setup, open Hardware and select the reader in which you want to enable 2FA
- Toggle On Two Factor Authentication
- Click Save
This new feature acts in combination with the tap-to-unlock method. When a user is about to unlock with their phone a door that has the 2FA activated, a message will pop up on the phone screen notifying the user that it is mandatory to first unlock the phone in order to unlock the door.
The user has to unlock the phone and tap again with the phone unlocked. This time the door will be unlocked.
If the user has notifications turned off, they will see a pop-up when they open the Kisi app. The message looks similar on both platforms.
