Integrate Kisi with Webex by Cisco

info

This is a Kisi-built integration, maintained and supported by Kisi.

Webex by Cisco is a collaboration platform that enables users to connect and communicate remotely with colleagues, customers, and partners. Webex chat rooms (called spaces in Webex) let teams and groups collaborate and communicate in real time.

By integrating Kisi with Webex by Cisco, you can receive Kisi event messages in real time in a Webex chat room.

Prerequisites

  • A Webex account
  • Kisi administrator access rights
  • The Webex user who signs in during setup must be a member of the target chat room. Only group spaces can be selected; direct (1:1) spaces aren't listed.

Set up the integration

  1. Sign in to your Webex account
  2. Create a new Webex chat room
  3. Add the kisi@webex.bot Bot to the Webex chat room
  4. Sign in to Kisi
  5. Click the integrations icon (3x3 grid of dots) > Add Integration
  6. Enter a name for your application and select Cisco Webex from the dropdown
  7. Click on Add. You'll be redirected to the Kisi marketplace page for the app, then to Webex to sign in.
  8. Finish the Webex OAuth flow
  9. Select the Webex chat room where you've added the bot. You can use the Search Room field to filter the list by the start of the room title.
  10. In the Webex Chat Room Selection dialog, click Ok to confirm
  11. Click Done
  12. Click Allowed Events, choose specific Kisi events for which you would like to receive notifications, or use the All option to allow notifications for all events, then click Save. Selecting All disables the individual event options.
  13. Trigger one of the events selected under Allowed Events to test the integration. A notification should appear in your Webex chat room.
caution

Kisi doesn't send any notifications until at least one event is selected under Allowed Events. You can change the selection at any time.

info

Please note that the bot is a one-way notification feature to receive events from Kisi. Notifications are posted by the Kisi bot as plain-text messages, using the message text of the Kisi event.

Change the chat room

On the app's configuration page:

  • To select a different chat room, click the Update (pencil) icon next to the selected chat room, then select and confirm the new room
  • To clear the current selection, click the Remove (trash) icon

If your Webex sign-in has expired, you'll be redirected to Webex to sign in again before the list of chat rooms loads.

Troubleshooting

No notifications arrive

Check that at least one event is selected under Allowed Events. A new integration has no events selected, so nothing is sent until you choose some.

The integration was disabled

If Kisi can't find the chat room when it posts a message, for example because the bot was removed from the room or the room was deleted, Kisi disables the integration. Organization administrators then receive an email titled Action Required: Kisi Integration Disabled with the reason Could not find room.

To fix this, add kisi@webex.bot back to the chat room or select another chat room, then re-enable the integration in Kisi.

No chat rooms are listed

If the page shows No Webex chat room, please join a chat room first!, the Webex user who signed in isn't a member of any group space. Join or create a group space in Webex, add the bot to it, then try again.
