Use your own tablet as a kiosk for Kisi

This guide explains how to install the Kisi Visitor Management Kiosk as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your own tablet devices. PWAs offer a full-screen, app-like experience and are ideal for kiosk setups. Installation is supported on both iOS and Android devices using either the Google Chrome or Safari browser.

Prerequisites

• A tablet device (iOS or Android) connected to the internet
• Access to the Kisi dashboard and visitor kiosk URL: https://marketplace.kisi.io/visitor-management/self-check-in/:token (where :token with your unique kiosk token)
• Google Chrome (recommended on Android) or Safari (required on iOS)

iOS devices

Installing the PWA on your device

1. Open Google Chrome or Safari on your device
2. Navigate to your Kisi Kiosk link
3. Tap the Share icon
4. Select Add to Home Screen
5. In the top right corner, tap Add
6. When the app opens, paste the kiosk link into the prompt (this is a one-time setup)
7. Your kiosk is now ready to use

Locking the app for kiosk use

1. Set up Guided Access to lock the app to the screen

Android devices

Installing the PWA on your device

1. Open Google Chrome on your device
2. Navigate to your Kisi Kiosk link
3. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
4. Select Add to Home screen
5. In the popup, tap Install
6. No further setup is needed. Your kiosk is now ready to use

Locking the app for kiosk use

1. Open Settings on your Android device
2. Go to Security & Privacy > Advanced > Screen Pinning (may vary slightly depending on your device)
3. Turn on Screen Pinning
4. Open the Kisi Kiosk app
5. Tap the Recents button in the bottom-left corner
6. Tap the app icon at the top of the window
7. Select Pin this app

To unpin, press and hold the Back and Overview buttons simultaneously (if configured)
