Integrate Kisi with Movena

Movena is an operating platform for fitness businesses, from boutique Pilates and yoga studios to CrossFit boxes, boxing and martial arts facilities, independent gyms and multi-location enterprise operators. Movena covers memberships, bookings, billing, programming, member training history and the broader member experience. With the Kisi integration, enrolled members automatically receive door access based on their membership and bookings.

Prerequisites

• Kisi organization owner or administrator rights
• A Movena gym with the Access Control add-on enabled for its participating locations
• A Movena account with owner or manager access to the gym's settings

Generate a Kisi API key

You need to have organization administrator or organization owner rights to create an API key. We recommend creating API keys from the organization owner's account, to avoid the API key becoming invalid when an organization admin loses their admin rights.

1. Sign in to Kisi
2. On the top right corner, click on your name and click on My Account
3. Next, select the API tab and click on Add API Key
4. Enter the name for the API key and your Kisi password and click Add
5. Copy the API key shown on the screen and click Close

Set up the integration in Movena

1. Sign in to Movena
2. Navigate to Settings > Access Control
3. Select Connect, choose Kisi, and enter the Kisi API key.
4. Select Configure Access Control. For each participating location, Movena creates the Kisi place and member group required by the integration, and configures event updates from Kisi automatically. There are no Kisi resource IDs to manually copy into Movena.
5. In Kisi, configure the location's controller, reader, and doors. Configure the doors that members of the Movena-created group should be able to access. The group is named Movena Members — [location name]
6. When the location is ready, select Turn on in Movena to activate access for that location.

Configure member access

Movena uses two controls to determine whether a member participates in Access Control.

Facility access

• For membership plans that include general gym entry, enable Include facility access on the plan. Members with an eligible active membership can then receive facility access without requiring a booking.
• For plans where entry should only be available around a booked session, leave facility access disabled. An eligible booking can independently create time-bounded access for that session.

Member enrollment

Each member must also be explicitly enrolled in Access Control by gym staff. Enrollment is a participation gate: having an eligible membership or booking alone does not automatically enroll a member or create a Kisi user.

Once enrolled, Movena automatically keeps Movena-managed access aligned with the member's current membership, bookings, and Access Control state:

• Membership cancellations and expiries remove access when the associated entitlement ends
• An explicit Access Control suspension prevents access until the suspension is lifted
• Turning Access Control off for one location removes Movena-managed access to that location without affecting the member's access to other participating locations

Kisi configuration remains authoritative for doors. Movena determines which enrolled members should receive access and, where applicable, the time window associated with booking-based access. Kisi continues to manage and enforce the physical environment, including doors, hardware, opening schedules, and other Kisi-configured restrictions.

How access syncs

Movena syncs access changes from Kisi in real time, and periodically reconciles access to catch and retry any failed updates or drift.

Before enabling a location or adding facility access to a plan, Movena checks that enough Kisi user capacity is available, and won't proceed if there's a shortfall.

Each Movena gym connects to one Kisi organization. Locations within that gym each map to their own Kisi place and member group.

End the integration

To end Access Control, cancel it in Movena first, so it can revoke access in an orderly way while it still has access to your Kisi organization.
