Wire the Kisi Reader Pro 2.1

The Kisi Reader 2.1 is a Power over Ethernet (PoE) based access control reader compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard. It operates on standard Power over Ethernet voltage: 44-57 volts direct current (VDC).

  1. Ensure you have a CAT6 or newer Ethernet cable ready for the connection
  2. Find the connector at the end of the reader's pigtails
  3. Insert the CAT6 or newer cable into the connector at the end of the reader's pigtails

Splicing a CAT6 Ethernet cable

In some installations, there may not be enough clearance for an RJ45 coupler where the Kisi Reader is mounted. In this situation, it may be desirable to splice a longer run of CAT6 Ethernet cable to the end of the Kisi Reader.

warning

Before you splice, please note this will void your warranty.

Like most network equipment, the Kisi Reader Pro 2.1 uses a straight through RJ45 pinout, however the color of the individual wires may not be consistent. Make sure to record the positioning of the wires in the RJ45 connector before you begin.

Follow the steps to ensure the device is functional before and after you make the splice.

  1. Test the reader directly connected to a switch, and ensure it can come online
  2. Disconnect the reader
  3. Record the positioning of the wires in the RJ45 connector before removing it
  4. Splice a longer Ethernet cable to the reader
  5. Test the reader again, connected through the extended run of Ethernet cable
